Media Release – Weekend Update May 31, 2021

Prince Albert Police responded to 372 calls for service between Friday evening and Monday morning, including 106 calls for service on Friday night alone. Police made 73 arrests over the weekend.

File 2021-19031 – Theft of Mail

Police have charged a 23-year-old man with break and enter and five counts of mail theft following a report of a suspicious incident in the 500 Block of 22nd Street East Sunday morning. At approximately 9:15 a.m. Sunday, a resident reported seeing a suspicious male in the back yard of a residence with a stack of mail.

Upon further investigation, police located broken mailboxes and mail connected to multiple residential suites at an apartment building in the city, including a government-issued cheque, debit card and census information. [Information 991162371]

File 2021-19011 – Possession of Dangerous Weapons

Just after 3 a.m. Sunday morning, police on routine patrol initiated a traffic stop in the 600 Block of Branion Drive. Upon further investigation, police located a large knife, two pairs of brass knuckles and a folding knife.

A 37-year-old man is facing several weapons-related charges in connection with this file [Information 991162342]. A 34-year-old woman is charged with obstructing a police officer and breach of undertaking. [Information 991162339]

File 2021-18995 – Break and Enter to Residence

While on patrol just before 1 a.m. Sunday, police located a vehicle left running in the middle of the street with the doors open in the area around Damour Terrace. The vehicle had been stolen from inside the garage of a nearby residence and a break and enter had occurred inside the home. Several items had been stolen, including a wallet, ID, a bike and tools.

Approximately one hour later, police arrested a male riding a bike near McIntosh Drive and 4th Street East for breach of court-ordered curfew conditions. Upon further investigation, officers located a wallet, ID, and a bike from the earlier break and enter. All property was returned to homeowner.

Officers also located a wallet and ID belonging to a different resident. Officers attended to the home and found two vehicles in the driveway that had been entered. Police returned the found property to the homeowner.

A 20-year-old man is charged with break and enter, theft of motor vehicle, theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property in relation to these two files. [Information 991162326]

File 2021-18931 – Assault with a Weapon

Police investigating a report of a stabbing at a residence in the 500 Block of 23rd Street Saturday evening located a man with head injuries. The victim was transported to hospital by Parkland Ambulance.

A 22-year-old man is facing charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon in connection with this file. [Information 991162304]

File 2021-18790 – Theft Under $5,000

Members on patrol in the 3000 Block of Eagle Crescent early Saturday morning were able to return a stolen bike back to the rightful owner shortly after it was taken from a nearby yard. Police were called to the area at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday for a report of a male checking cars and located a man matching the description of the suspect on Olive Diefenbaker Drive.

Police also located numerous gift cards, binoculars, and sunglasses as part of this file. A 20-year-old man is charged with theft under $5,000 and trespass at night. [Information 991162253]

File 2021-18900 – Possession of a Dangerous Weapon

Police responded to a report of a disturbance in the 600 Block of 20th Street East just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday. A man was reported to be yelling in a back alley.

Upon further investigation, police located a collapsible baton and four .22 calibre bullets on the man’s person. He is charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a prohibited weapon in connection with this incident. [Information 991162300]
