Several members of the Prince Albert Police Service responded to a call for assistance Friday morning from Parkland Ambulance involving a mental health incident at an apartment building in the 1100 Block of Branion Drive.

A 29-year-old male was found to be in possession of edged weapons at the time of police arrival, and attempts to de-escalate the situation were unsuccessful. As a result, a conducted energy device (CED) was deployed and the man was taken safely into custody and transported to hospital.

Charges are not expected to be laid in relation to this incident.

Members of the Prince Albert Police Service routinely respond to calls involving mental health incidents, and continue to work with the new Police and Crisis Team (PACT) to help people experiencing a mental health crisis connect with local resources. The PACT team has been in place in Prince Albert since October 2018 and pairs front-line officers with mental health professionals to respond to emergencies.
