August Long Weekend Update

The Prince Albert Police Service had a steady long weekend responding to 379 calls for service between Friday night and Tuesday morning. Officers made 65 arrests. 41 of the arrests made were for people being intoxicated in a public place.

The top calls for service were for intoxicated persons (54), disturbances (52) and suspicious incidents (21).

Extra resources were deployed over the long weekend focusing on traffic laws, impaired driving and alcohol related offences. Prince Albert Police Service members teamed up with Prince Albert Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and conducted stop checks over the weekend. Police issued 2 twenty four hour suspensions, seized 2 vehicles and issued 12 Traffic Safety Act Violations after checking 400 vehicles.

On August 6, 2018 at 9:30 p.m. a patrol officer approached an unknown male as he matched the description of a suspect from a previous complaint police received. The officer approached the male in the 100 Block of 15th Street East. The officer confirmed the 37-year-old male’s identity and confirmed he had an outstanding warrant. The officer advised the suspect he was under arrest. The suspect suddenly fled and the officer pursued on foot. The suspect was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

The suspect was searched and officer’s located 2.7 Grams of Marijuana and .3 Grams of Methamphetamine.

The accused is charged with resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and possession of methamphetamine (Info # 991060988). The Prince Albert man will make his first court appearance today.

On August 7, 2018 just after midnight patrol officers and K9 responded to a robbery in progress at a business in the 2800 Block of 6th Avenue East. The store employee advised two female suspects pulled a knife on him, threatening to stab him and ran from the business with stolen product.

Patrol immediately contained the area while Police Service Dog Daxa was deployed. The K9 Unit located the suspects hiding in a yard in the 400 Block of 28th Street East where they were apprehended. The suspects were searched and the knife used in the robbery was recovered as well as the stolen property.

A 17-year-old female from Prince Albert is charged with robbery (Info # 991061002).

A 16-year-old female from Prince Albert is also charged with robbery (Info # 991061003).

Both accused will make their first court appearance today.
