Weekend Update – November 27, 2017

The Prince Albert Police Service responded to 208 calls for service over the weekend and arrested 30 people. The top two calls for service were for disturbances and intoxicated persons.

File #2017-40285 - Impaired Driving

On November 24, 2017 at approximately 12:40 p.m. patrol members responded to a call of a Reported Impaired Driver (RID) for a vehicle traveling erratically on Highway 55 traveling east. When officers arrived they found the vehicle stuck on a snow bank on the on-ramp to Hwy 2 south/Diefenbaker Bridge.

Officers engaged emergency lights and sirens and pulled behind the vehicle. The driver was questioned by officers who observed appearances of intoxication. The male suspect was brought to the back of the police vehicle and a roadside Assisted Screening Device (ASD) was conducted which the driver failed.

The suspect was brought back to cells and failed subsequent breathalyzer tests. The suspect is charged with impaired driving and exceeding .08.

The 78-year-old male suspect was released to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court January 8, 2017.

File # 2017-40278- Drug Recognition Expert

On November 24, 2017 at 11:46 a.m. officers were dispatched to 100 Block 28 Street East to a two-vehicle Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA).

A driver had rear-ended another vehicle. When the driver was questioned officers observed signs of the driver being impaired by drugs. A roadside Assisted Screening Device (ASD) was conducted which the driver failed. Drug paraphernalia was also found in the suspect's vehicle.

The 28-year-old from Macdowall, Saskatchewan is charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

The suspect will make his first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court December 17, 2017.

 File #2017-40397 - Possession Meth/Resisting Police Officers

On Saturday November 25, 2017 patrol members observed an unregistered vehicle traveling on the Unit Block of 10 Street West.

Patrol activated their emergency lights and sirens to conduct an Traffic Safety Act stop.

The driver was found to be wanted on outstanding warrants. Officers attempted to arrest the suspect who resisted but was brought under control and arrested. The suspect was then searched and 4.5 grams of methamphetamine was found on his person.

The 35-year-old male suspect is charged with possession of methamphetamine and resisting a peace officer.

The suspect has been released and will answer to charges in Prince Albert Provincial Court on December 6, 2017.
