File # 38110 - Vehicle Vs. House

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on October 31, 2017 officers stopped an SUV near the Cornerstone District in regards to a Traffic Safety Act investigation for speeding.  The vehicle stopped briefly in the Cornerstone Shopping District parking lot, and as the patrol vehicle approached the suspect vehicle, it then sped off down 15th Street East.  Officers immediately disengaged due to high rates of speed and concern for officer and public safety and began to search the area for the suspect vehicle.

The vehicle was then located on McIntosh Drive and was observed by officers attempting to turn northbound on McIntosh Drive when it lost control and crashed into the front of a residence.  The house sustained major damage. No residents were injured.

A passenger was still in the vehicle when officers arrived and was arrested. He did not sustain injuries. A male driver was seen fleeing from the vehicle.  As officers contained the area, police service dog (PSD) Daxa and handler initiated a track to search for the driver.

A male suspect was located approximately 5 kilometres from the scene and refused to cooperate with police. The suspect was engaged by PSD Daxa and apprehended.

The suspect was arrested and taken to hospital where he was treated and released into police custody. Charges are pending.
