Rules Around Garage Sales in Prince Albert

Now that the warmer weather is here, the Prince Albert Police Service wants to remind residents about the rules around garage sales in the city. Garage sales must be conducted by the resident of the home, or the non-profit group or community association hosting the sale.

No more than three (3) sales are permitted on any one site in a calendar year and sales cannot run longer than three (3) consecutive days.

Residents are allowed to advertise their garage sale using signs, provided they follow a few basic guidelines:

  • Garage/yard sale signs cannot be posted on public property, such as city boulevards, sidewalks, light standards, trees, mailboxes or intersections
  • Signs are also not permitted on public highways
  • Signs cannot be blocking sightlines
  • Signs must not be in the shape of traffic ‘STOP’ or ‘YIELD’ signs, or any directional signage.

Rules for garage sales fall under the City of Prince Albert’s Zoning Bylaw. Residents can be ticketed by bylaw enforcement for any violations of garage sale regulations.
