Today, we learned of the deaths of two members of the Edmonton Police Service. Any death due to violence is inexplicable and devastating, and I want to offer my condolences to families and loved ones of EPS Cst. Travis Jordan, and EPS Cst. Brett Ryan. Our thoughts and support are with them at this devastating time.
The loss of police colleagues in such a senseless and horrific way affects officers across our country, and all of us with the Prince Albert Police Service are deeply impacted by this tragic incident. There are no words to describe the anguish that follows this level of violence, and nothing that can be said to ease the sorrow that families and our police members are feeling.
Our flags are at half-mast in honour of Cst. Jordan and Cst. Ryan. Once arrangements are made, members from our police service will be travelling to Edmonton to pay their respects and join members from across our country in mourning the loss of dedicated police members.
No one should ever have to experience the death of a friend or colleague while on duty. Police officers are the first to help when our community is in need and respond to each call with empathy and courage, putting the needs of others first.
Today, as we work to understand and accept the news out of Edmonton, our members are at work serving our community. Supports are in place through our in-house wellness program for members who wish to connect.
We are keeping everyone with the Edmonton Police Service in our thoughts and join police and community members across Canada in offering our deepest condolences to families and loved ones of Cst. Jordan and Cst. Ryan.
