The Prince Albert Police Service is alerting the public about the possibility of Fentanyl in our community and the extreme risk associated with using this dangerous, illicit drug.
Police suspect that a supply of Fentanyl may be present in Prince Albert. The Fentanyl may be in various bright colours and looks similar to crack cocaine. Information provided to police is that Fentanyl is being described as “pebbles” and sold illegally.
Illicit fentanyl is usually produced in powder form. It can also be dropped onto blotter paper, placed into eyedroppers and nasal sprays, or made into pills that resemble other prescription opioids. Illicit drug dealers mix fentanyl with other drugs, such as heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, and MDMA. It should be noted that fentanyl is odorless, and because it is often mixed with other substances, it will not have a distinctive or unique appearance.
Fentanyl is so powerful that just a small amount can cause severe illness or death. Just a few grains of this substance can be fatal.
The Prince Albert Police Service is concerned for the health and safety of all members of the community and would like to remind the public about the risks associated with using illegal street drugs. Residents are advised to call 911 immediately if they think someone is in need of medical attention as a result of drug use.
Purchasing drugs from a street dealer carries a higher risk of injury or death, as the user cannot be sure of the quality of the product, or whether any toxic substances have been added. Drugs or medications should only be taken as prescribed by a medical practitioner.
Anyone witnessing an overdose should call 911 immediately and remain at the scene. The risk of overdose is extremely high.
