PAPS asking residents to be vigilant of phone fraudsters

The Prince Albert Police Service would like to remind residents to take caution when providing personal financial information or sending money over the phone.

There have been a few reports of residents receiving fraudulent calls from callers lately pretending to be government organizations in attempts to gain personal information and money in the scams.

The police want to remind people that the CRA and other government organizations will not call you directly to ask you to send money to them over the phone or to gather your personal information over the phone such as your SIN number or other private information.

Please be cautious with providing any financial or personal details over the phone before verifying that it is a legitimate request from an authorized body.

If you have received one of these calls, please contact the Prince Albert Police Service at 306-953-4222 or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online or toll free at 1-888-495-8501.
